Rock’n’Roll, Blues and Soul for wind orchestra

It is 85 years since Elvis Presley was born. He died in 1977 at the age of 42, but the artist is still deeply rooted in many hearts. Elvis’ musical influences were the pop and country music of the time, the gospel music he heard in church and in the nightly gospel singing he often attended, and the black R&B he recorded as a teenager on historic Beale Street in Memphis. With a sound and style that combined his diverse musical influences in a unique way, blurring and challenging the social and racial barriers of the time, he ushered in a whole new era of American music and pop culture.

He starred in 33 successful films, made history with his television appearances and specials and was celebrated for his many, often record-breaking live concert appearances on tours and in Las Vegas. He has sold over a billion records worldwide, more than any other artist. His American sales have earned him gold, platinum or multiple platinum for 149 different albums and singles, far more than any other artist. His numerous prizes and awards include 14 Grammy nominations (3 wins) from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, which he received at the age of 36.

Marc Reift and his orchestra set another monument to the idol with the CD “The Best of Elvis Presley“. It contains well-known and less performed titles, all of which were arranged by Jirka Kadlec. Kadlec is a trombonist and arranger in the Gloria brass band, which is conducted by Zdeněk Gurský. This band comes from South Moravia and has existed since 1994. The ensemble consists of 13 musicians and 3 vocal soloists. Gloria has released over 20 records. In 2000 Gloria won the title of European Champion in the professional class at the first European Championship of Bohemian-Moravian Brass Band Music.

All titles on this CD are published in arrangements for harmony/concertband and brass band.
