Panorama for Solo Solo Trombone was composed in 1976 for the National Brass Competition in the same year.
Panorama is a relatively short ABA work built on the initials dotted eighth-sixteenth rhythm and open perfect fourth and fifth intervals. Englund adds variety to the opening A motive with use of 32nd's instead of 16th's and occasional arpeggiated chords. The slower contrasting B section, dolce e tranquillo, is slightly more scalewise in form but still employs the dotted eighth-sixteenth motive. Though is not listed as freely, I chose to allow the melody to influence the changing of the tempo in this section. The return of the A motive, in a slightly modified version, follows the same form as the original A section leading to a very brief coda.
