Composer Jeanbourquin, Marc
Difficulty level 4
Duration 10:35
Additional info/contents "Sinfonietta No.1" won first prize in the Swiss Brass Band Association's 2023 composition competition. Various melodic themes and rhythmic motifs run through the entire work. They combine with the numerous dynamic effects and thereby create a certain unity from the beginning to the end of this competition piece. The technical and melodic difficulties provide various soloists with the opportunity to demonstrate their virtuosity and musicianship in the five sections, which are played without interruption. The first slow and mysterious part (misterioso) contrasts with the following section (energico), which is based on an ostinato and creates both an increase and a tension that leads to the third part mesto (sad). In the following lento, several cadences and numerous dissonances are heard. The transition (energico) finally announces the fifth section, a ternary and fast con fuoco. This last part leads to a final climax.
